Conversion tracking setup: GA4, GTM, Pixel and CAPI, server-side
Google and Meta optimize for whatever they can see. If your account sees button clicks instead of leads, and doesn’t see calls or closed deals at all, you’re paying to optimize for the wrong thing. I set up measurement so the algorithms learn from real conversions and you see cost per qualified lead, not CTR.

Algorithms learn from the conversions they see
Smart Bidding and Meta’s delivery look for people similar to those who already converted. If “converted” means “viewed the contact page”, they’ll find you thousands of people who view the contact page and leave.
Half the accounts I audit optimize for the wrong event
The most common finding: primary conversion is a button click, a thank-you page that opens without a form submit, or a GA4 event counted twice. Campaigns look successful. Pipeline doesn’t move.
B2B without CRM import is flying blind
Form fills are not opportunities. If the account never learns which leads became qualified, it optimizes for volume of forms, and you cut budget exactly where the real deals came from.
What I set up
Google Analytics 4
- Events mapped to your funnel: demo, trial, signup, lead, purchase - not the default set.
- Conversions with priorities and values.
- Payment referrer exclusions, cross-domain tracking for app + marketing site.
- Funnels and reports for what you actually check weekly.
Google Tag Manager
- A clean container: triggers, variables, dataLayer, naming the next specialist can read.
- Form tracking on any platform: WordPress, Webflow, HubSpot, Shopify, custom.
- Consent Mode v2 for EU traffic.
Google Ads
- Conversion import from GA4 or direct tags, no duplicates.
- Enhanced conversions for better matching.
- Conversion values where leads differ in worth.
- Offline conversion import from your CRM: HubSpot, Pipedrive, Bitrix24 and NetHunt - so the account learns from qualified opportunities and closed deals.
Meta
- Pixel via GTM, standard events mapped to the funnel.
- Conversions API via server-side GTM or native integration (Shopify, WooCommerce, HubSpot).
- Pixel and CAPI deduplication, event match quality checks.
- Domain verification and event priorities.
Calls
- Dynamic call tracking connected to GA4 and both ad platforms: every call from ads becomes a conversion with source, campaign and keyword.
Looker Studio dashboard
- Spend, leads, calls, cost per lead - by platform, campaign and day. One screen that opens on a phone.
Timeline: 2-4 business days for one platform, 4-6 for the full package.
Server-side tagging: when you need it
Server-side GTM moves data collection from the browser to your own endpoint. You get:
- Fuller data from iOS and tracking-blocking browsers.
- Resistance to ad blockers.
- Better GDPR posture for EU traffic: data flows through your infrastructure.
- A faster site: fewer scripts in the browser.
Not everyone needs it. A local business on $2,000/mo - no. E-commerce, SaaS, EU traffic or a large iOS share - yes. I build on Stape or a dedicated Cloud Run instance. From $800 as a standalone service.

Tracking questions
Do I need a developer on my side?
No, if I get access to GTM or the CMS. A developer is only needed for non-standard forms on custom sites or for e-commerce dataLayer - in that case I write the spec.
How long does it take?
2-4 business days for the base package, 4-6 for full. Plus a week of validation on live traffic.
Which platforms?
WordPress, Webflow, HubSpot, Shopify, WooCommerce, Framer, custom builds. The method differs, the result doesn’t: leads visible in GA4 and in both ad platforms.
Can you import offline conversions from our CRM?
Yes. For B2B it’s usually the highest-impact change in the whole account: Google starts optimizing for qualified opportunities rather than form fills. I have done this with HubSpot, Pipedrive, Bitrix24 and NetHunt.
Do we need a cookie consent banner?
For EU traffic, yes: Consent Mode v2 in GTM plus a compliant banner. Without it Google throttles EU data and modeling.
What about Universal Analytics?
Shut down, data not migrated. If you only have a UA tag, you have no analytics.
